Souqs of Deira Dubai
A great way to spend the day in Dubai is to wander the covered Souqs of Deira. This huge market sells mainly Indian goods, with a few Arabic stands thrown in. Located in the square between Al-Sabka Rd. and 67th Street, this is one of the biggest and best souqs in Dubai.
The most interesting area of the souq tends to be right in the center, where Indian shops sell a variety of exotic goods, such as spices, pipes, clothing, textiles and kitchen wares. Headscarves and Saris can also be purchased in a variety of beautiful colors and designs. The prices that the owner will quote you for items is usually much higher than their worth: feel free to haggle for items, and the price will probably come down a fair bit. There is also an endless supply of Henna for sale, as well as artists that will paint your hands and feet with beautiful traditional designs.
While wandering around be sure to sample some of the delicious foods being sold by vendors. This is a great way to sample various dishes for next to nothing.
