Dubai Museum
The Dubai museum is a masterpiece. This is a fantastic place to visit while in the city, and so much time, effort and money has been put into this facility that visitors are always amazed and pleased with its contents.
The museum is located in the Al Fahidi Fort, which was built in the early 19th century and used to be the residence of Dubai's rulers and the seat of the government. The museum made its home here in 1971, and has had millions invested in it since its conception, making it one of the most technologically advanced museums in the world.
One of the best exhibits in the museum details the history of the city's development through a multimedia presentation. Also here is a display on how water is conserved in the desert, as well as a re-creation of a typical souq, complete with lifelike dummies. The flora and fauna of the region are detailed in another interactive display, and there is also a fantastic exhibit on the area's archaeology.
While wandering the museum be sure to have a look at the huge aerial pictures near the entrance that show Dubai's development over the years. Also worth checking out is the courtyard, containing traditional boats as well as a Windtower.
